Since the start of his career, Mustafa Kamal has spearheaded the construction of many educational institutes, parks and roads. He has also courted foreign investors such as Dubai's Emaar to build mega projects in Karachi such as Creek Marina, a large residential and commercial complex along the seafront.
He is widely hailed as one Karachi's most forward thinking mayors. This is reflected in his widespread popularity. His Facebook page has over 45,281 supporters, making him one of Pakistan's most popular personalities on the internet. Several international media institutions such as Time (magazine) have honored the Nazim with feature length articles.
Mustafa Kamal also set up a volunteer service named "I own Karachi" to motivate youngsters and youths of Karachi towards providing services and helping the citizens. The project "I own Karachi" not succeeded the only intention behind this to mobilize a ethnic class of Karachi for their political motives. The clear example is community police of Karachi, the community police of Karachi is a group of a political workers paid by state. It is the only example in which all the tax payers paying salaries to the political workers.
Mustafa Kamal also started the organization called "City Wardens". It not only provides help to public in various issues related with City Government but also do various jobs like traffic control etc.
